About Barbara B. Rollins

Curiosity carries Barbara B. Rollins from one interest to another as she puzzles through life’s questions. She’s attained degrees in Secondary Education (Spanish and English), Christian Education, and Law, two with honors. She taught 7th and 8th grade, served as Director of Christian Education, and practiced law before becoming a judge 18 years ago. In the last four years she’s traveled to a dozen countries on nine trips.

Through it all, she writes to sort through ideas and information. Syncopated Summer is her fifth published book. Her Forensic Crime Stoppers books include Fingerprint Evidence, Ballistics, Blood Evidence, and Cause of Death. The United Methodist Church published youth curriculum Barbara wrote. Her poems ranked in Massachusetts, Ohio, and Texas contests and Byline Magazine, Off The Record, and Blood and Thunder printed them. R*A*D*A*R and KidzCh@t used her children’s stories. Adults read her work in TACA Journal, In Chambers, Writing for Dollars, I Am Third, and on six internet sites she serves as webmaster.

As a judge hearing misdemeanors, civil litigation, and juvenile cases, she talks to jurors, litigants, and lawyers daily. In larger groups she speaks to Rotarians, Lions, Kiwanians, lawyers, Toastmasters, Daughters of the Republic of Texas and of the American Revolution, school students, probation officers, writers, and many other groups. She has spoken all over North Texas including Abilene, Quanah, Brownwood, Clyde, Winters, Austin, and Fort Worth. Topics include the history of women judges, presidential politics, forensics (both modern and 19th century), writing, the judicial system, the Constitution, Nicaragua, and legal and medieval history.

She raised two sons and gained two daughters when the sons married in 2005. She and Mike, her husband for more than 30 years, live in Abilene, Texas. Sometimes, though, they travel the world out of curiosity.
